Lauki or Bottle Gourd Dosa recipe

An interesting and healthy way of preparing a crisp and instant dosa recipe with bottle gourd which has strong similarities to the popular crisp rava dosa recipe with the same batter.


  • ½ bottle gourd / lauki / sorekai
  •  cup rice flour
  • ½ cup Rava / semolina / suji (coarse)
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • 4 cup water
  • 1 onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 chilli (finely chopped)
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 2 tbsp coriander (finely chopped)
  • oil (for roasting)


    • Peel the skin of lauki and cut it into pieces. make sure to remove the seeds as well.
    • Blend the bottle gourd into a smooth paste.
    • Transfer the bottle gourd paste into a large bowl.
    • Add 1½ cup rice flour, ½ cup Rava and ¾ tsp salt.
    • Pour 4 cups of water and mix using a whisk.
    • Further add 1 onion, 2 tbsp coriander, 2 chillies, 1 tsp cumin and 2 tbsp coriander.
    • Mix well and rest for 10 minutes for rava to soak well.
    • After 10 minutes, you can see the batter is watery. you can adjust the consistency by adding water if required.
    • when the pan is super hot, pour the batter on the pan.
    • Spread 1 tsp oil and allow to roast for 2 minutes or until the dosa turns crisp.
    • Finally, enjoy the crispy lauki dosa recipe with chutney.
