Dog escapes crate at British Columbia airport, found after 9 days

A dog escaped from his crate at Canada’s Vancouver International Airport and was on the loose for 9 days before being safely apprehended by rescuers.

Petsearchers Canada said the 8-month-old dog, named Tommy, escaped from his crate after arriving at the airport from South Korea on Oct. 9.

A pair of rescuers from the organization were summoned to assist with the search.

“After searching every corner of the parking lots and terminals, they shifted focus to quieter areas nearby. There he was — hiding deep in the bushes just off a busy airport road,” Petsearchers Canada said on social media.

The rescuers placed a trap at the scene, but Tommy fled “north toward the industrial and forested areas, full of coyotes and heavy traffic.”

Tommy eventually made his way back to the airport, where he was spotted at the fuel yard and next to a runway.
