A North Carolina Education Lottery player said she followed a random urge to play the Monopoly online lottery game — and ended up winning a $1.86 million jackpot.
Cleveland resident Barbara Stewart told North Carolina Education Lottery officials she was in bed when she decided to give the game a try on her phone.
Something just told me to play Monopoly,” she said.
The impulse to make a $1 play led to her winning the $1.86 million top-level “Grand Fortune” jackpot.
“I really didn’t know what was going on,” she said. “It was unreal. I could not sleep at all after that.”
Stewart said she will use her prize money to take care of her three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
“This came right on time,” Stewart said. “It’s a great feeling.”
She added some of the money will also go toward home repairs.
“Now I can fix whatever needs to be fixed,” she said.
