Budhwa Mangal – 29th Marach
Written by Sneh Chaudhry on March 29, 2022
Hindus throughout Fiji and former residents abroad will tonight mark the conclusion of the Holi festival with the Budhwa Mangal.
Rather than being a part of the Sanatan Hindu religion in the Fijian Diaspora the practice of Budhwa Mangal is more of a culture.
It records and relates us back to our roots- originating from India and more so North India where this practice is prevalent and popular and from where most of the Girmityas came to Fiji.
Throughout the Hindu fellowship tonight the musical instruments used in Holi would be put to rest and hopefully with it whatever rancour we had agreed to shun in this Holi.
May the next Holi bring more colours of happiness, prosperity and peace and let our artists shine at the podium with the old and new versions of Phaag.
Radio Sargam Team wishes you a Happy Budhwa Mangal.
