Chocolate Coconut Gujiya Recipe

Written by on February 28, 2022

A small twist to the regular gujiyas – these gujiyas are filled with chocolate – coconut – nuts filling.

INGREDIENTS

For the dough

  • ½ cup maida/all-purpose flour
  • 1tablespoon ghee/clarified butter
  • water for kneading dough

For the filling

  • ½ teaspoon ghee
  • ⅓ cup desiccated coconut
  • 8-10 cashews roughly chopped
  • 8-10 almonds roughly chopped
  • 15 raisins
  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
  • ⅓ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

INSTRUCTIONS

For the dough

  1. In a wide bowl, combine maida and ghee. Mix well and knead into a stiff dough adding water gradually. The dough should be smooth yet stiff, it should not be sticky.
  2. Cover and keep aside for 15-20 minutes.

For the filling

  1. Heat ghee in a non-stick pan on low flame. Add desiccated coconut and saute for 2 minutes.
  2. Now add chopped almonds and cashews. Also, add raisins and powdered sugar.
  3. Mix and saute for about 1-2 minutes. Keep the flame low.
  4. Remove from flame and let the mixture cool down.
  5. In a microwave-safe bowl, add chocolate chips and micro for 30 seconds. Remove from microwave and stir. Again micro for 30 seconds. Keep repeating till chocolate is completely melted.
  6. Add this melted chocolate to our prepared coconut mixture. Mix well and set it aside. Our stuffing is ready.

Preparing the Gujiya

  1. Knead the dough once again and divide it into small balls.
  2. Dust a little flour and roll out the dough in a small circle.
  3. Put the chocolate-coconut stuffing in the centre and apply water on the edges of the circle.
  4. Fold into half. This will now resemble a half-moon shape or a semi-circle. Lightly press the edges with fingers and seal them with the help of a fork. Alternatively, you can also twist the edges and make pleats.
  5. Prepare all the gujiyas.
  6. Heat oil for frying gujiyas. Once the oil is hot enough, immerse gujiyas in oil and fry on a medium flame. Take out on an absorbent paper.
  7. Enjoy these delicious Chocolate Gujiyas.
