A man wanted to pop the question to his better half in the most original way possible, so he ordered a takeaway and asked the restaurant to write ‘will you marry me’, on the box.
A man has been praised for keeping romance alive after proposing to his girlfriend with a message written on a takeaway food box.
Jim Lardner ordered a toasted sandwich from a nearby cafe through Just Eat, and in the notes, he added a special request that has since gone viral.
First, he asked for red onions on his toastie, then he asked for them to write ‘will you marry me on the outside of the packaging.
Staff at Kilbowie Cafe in Clydebank, Scotland, kindly obliged and Jim said he expected his partner would ‘be ecstatic’, but later shared his story on Twitter – adding “she said no”.
Jim’s note to Kilbowie Cafe in Clydebank, Scotland, reads: “Can I get red onions on the toastie with onions, please. Can you write ‘will you marry me’, on the box with the onion toastie.
“She will be ecstatic. Thanks.”
But he must have been wrong because later he shared his story on Twitter and said: “Shout out to Kilbowie Cafe, she said no.”
After sharing his story online, other Twitter users praised Jim’s failed romantic gesture.
One said: “Who said romance is dead? You forgot the Poundland engagement ring.”
And another said: “Think he got her an onion ring!”
Then a third added: “Proper tickled hahaha.”
Meanwhile, when it comes to proposals, people have all sorts of ideas of grandeur – from candles and flowers to skywriting and surprise trips.
