Akshay Kumar on actors unwilling to do multi-starrers- “I don’t understand why they don’t want to do it”

Actor Akshay Kumar has been a part of several multi-starrer films right from the start of his career. From Mohra to Main Khiladi Tu Anari, to Hera Pheri, he has been part of several hit multi-starrers. More recently, he shared screen with two superstars – Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh in the power-packed climax of Sooryavanshi. He also proved that the length of his role does not matter as long as he enjoys the script by agreeing to be a part of a film like Atrangi Re which was headlined by Sara Ali Khan and Dhanush.
Recently, during a media interaction, Akshay Kumar was asked about why the audiences do not get to see more multi-starrer like in the 90s. Responding to it, the actor said, “I keep on scratching my head and I don’t understand why they don’t want to do it. It is so wonderful to do three hero subjects, four hero subjects, even five hero subjects, like it happens in Hollywood. But here it is, they don’t want to do it. Even with two heroes, they agree very reluctantly. Haath pair jodne padte hai (We have to beg). It’s beyond my understanding as to why they can’t do it. But, things will change one day, I assume.”
Further, when asked why he still chooses to do multi-starrers, the actor said, “Because the script is nice. I want to do it. I want to be a part of a good film. I want to be a part of a good film rather than what is my role. If it is three hero subject, and my role is fine but the story is great, I would want to be part of it. If tomorrow someone talks about it, they will say even this actor was a part of the film. It’s a hit film, it is a big film, it made Rs. 300 cr, this hero is also there in the film. It will benefit me also. But I don’t understand the kind of maths they are thinking. The maths is wrong that they are thinking. We should do three hero films, we should do two-hero films. We must do that.” Akshay Kumar will be seen doing 2 two-hero films next- Bade Miyan Chote Miyan with Tiger Shroff and Selfiee with Emraan Hashmi.
Akshay Kumar is currently gearing up for the release of Bachchhan Paandey, which also stars Kriti Sanon, Jacqueline Fernandez, Arshad Warsi, and Pankaj Tripathi. The film directed by Farhad Samji is set to hit the screens on March 18.
