Ameesha Patel claims Gadar was labelled as ‘gutter’ before its release

The trailer of Gadar 2, starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, released on Wednesday. The trailer showcases Tara Singh in his formidable and action-packed avatar. The trailer was released on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Divas. The trailer was launched at a grand event attended by Anil Sharma, Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, Utkarsh Sharma, Shariq Patel, Simrat Kaur, Mithoon, Alka Yagnik, Jubin Nautiyal and Aditya Narayan. Set amidst the tumultuous ‘Crush India Movement’ of 1971, the trailer is packed with powerful dialogues, and high-octane action featuring military tankers, trucks, and the iconic hand pump.

Speaking to reporters at the Gadar 2 trailer launch, Ameesha Patel claimed that Gadar: Ek Prem Katha was called ‘gutter’ before its release and that did upset her. “Logon ne Gadar ke aane ke pehle Gadar ko gutter kaha tha aur yeh baat mere dil ko choo gayi thi. Phir maine kaha yeh dejection nahi, yahan main jyada mehnat karungi. (People had called Gadar ‘gutter’ before its release in theatres, which upset me. Then I said this is not a dejection, here I will work harder).”

She added, “When Gadar 2 was in talks, the same conversations started happening. ‘Dude, have you seen yourself on Instagram?’, that a girl who did ‘Lazy Lamhe’, how can she do Gadar now? How will she play a mother to a boy in his 20s? Those same questions were raised. But I just had to do it. We kept doing look tests for hours on end. Finally, I got a text from Anil Sharma, who wrote, ‘My precious Sakeena is back’).”

The film is directed by Anil Sharma and produced by Zee Studios, Anil Sharma Productions and MM Moviez. It will release in theatres on August 11, 2023.
