From donning multiple avatars to giving power-packed performances as a vigilante, Kamal Haasan’s Indian (1996) received a lot of appreciation from the audience. In 2019, the Ulaganayakan announced the return of this film franchise and even kicked off work on Indian 2. But the project suffered multiple delays due to unavoidable adversities like the pandemic. Now that the film is back on track, the Vikram actor resumed the shoot to complete the pending portions of the Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh starrer.

A source close to the actor confirmed the recent developments adding, “After the success of Vikram, Ulaganayakan aka global star Kamal Haasan has started shooting for Indian 2 with Shankar. He gave a glimpse to the fans in this video where he is resuming shoot and was spotted on the sets of the film. He also met director Shankar and was seen in a conversation with the filmmaker. The actor’s iconic vigilante character from Indian is still fresh in our minds and we can’t wait to see what this amazing actor-director combo will present in the sequel. We certainly are waiting with bated breath,” concluded the source.

Speaking of the film Indian 2, it also features Kajal Aggarwal and Rakul Preet Singh in lead roles. However, details of their characters are currently kept under wraps. With music by Anirudh Ravichander, the film is produced by Red Giant films and Lyca productions and will be releasing worldwide in 2023.

For the uninitiated, Indian, that released in May 1996, is a vigilante action drama featuring Kamal Haasan in a double role. The film also featured Sukanya, Urmila Matondkar, and Manisha Koirala in lead roles. The film revolved around how an ex-military officer, who hates corruption and decides to wipe out everyone who bribes or is involved in bribery. It even went on to win three National Awards.
